Re: Whitefish Fishing
Lately things have been rather slow going for whitefish....however there are a few nice reports coming in from lakes like Pigeon as well as Gull, Sylvan and Wabamun. Be sure to try an assortment of different colored wire worms and bring maggots as the whites seem to switch up. Mainly i found that they have been going for brass and copper.
Cheers!

Re: Whitefish Fishing

I had success this year at gull and sylvan jigging a green wire worm, wetaskiwins and thumpers right on the bottom.

Re: Whitefish Fishing
the whitefish at sylvan usually are in less than 2 meters of water and that lake is mostly sand bottom at that depth. we use ice flys and wire/san juan worms red maggots I tried a few flys that work well on rockies but had no luck

Re: Whitefish Fishing

Picked up this whitie today on the trusty wetaskiwin, as you can see in the pic it absolutely engulfed one double hook completely and the other one went into my palm while grabbing it lol thankfully hooks nowadays are barbless or it wouldnt have come out haha. Im finidng the slower you presentation the better. Use an unbaited wetaskiwin and very slowly twitch it a few inches form bottom and they smash it. I even had them take it when it wasnt moving. The old slader jig was working good today too. For sladers you just work them like you would a buzzbomb, raise the rod slow then drop it back down and the jig cartwheels, unresistable to whitefish!
