My hunting season continued

Post by JohnAB on Fri 27 Feb 2009, 10:12 pm

Saturday morning met up with ratlander a hour late (so I cannot tell time) and we head off into the wild blue yonder known as my cousins place. Get there and low and behold 3 moose out in the field. I stop and get out and ask Ratlander is there a bull there. He says yes the left one is. I get a good rest and settle the crosshairs on the top of his back right above the lungs. I squeeze the trigger and the 300 Weatherby roars. I look up and see the moose has taken a couple of steps and is just standing there. I yell at Ratlander did I hit him, Ratlander says shoot again. Well not being the sharpest knife in the drawer I had grabbed only one shell. So I run back to the truck to grab another shell and Ratlander says don't bother. I turn around just in time to see the moose go down. We lasered the moose, 442 yards. One shot, took out his heart.

2008 Mulie Buck

Post by JohnAB on Fri 27 Feb 2009, 10:21 pm

Well I was down to the short strokes when it came to finding a mulie buck this fall. Saw this guy out there about 375 yards. The 300 Bee did the rest. Not much of a deer in terms of rack size but the one antler was growing straight out. And he tastes just fine!

One of my favorite pics.

Post by JohnAB on Fri 27 Feb 2009, 10:26 pm

This picture was taken in 1986 when my grandfather was 85 years old. It is taken at the relatives hunting cabin/sawmill just south of Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan. I would say it was a decent day moose hunting.

I apologize for all the posts but it is a Friday nite and not much going on.
